Perfect by Ellen Hopkins

The book I read was Perfect by Ellen Hopkins. I really liked this book because it showed what perfect is in the perspective of four different teenagers, each one trying to achieve perfection. Perfect is the kind of book that you can relate to and learn from. The four main characters in this book are Cara Sykes, who is trying to live up to her parents expectations while dealing with her sexuality. Kendra Mathieson, who has been in beauty pageants her whole life and is trying to be a model, but develops a health issue before her plastic surgery. Sean O'Connell who is trying to get a baseball scholarship into Stanford, but develops a bad drug addiction. Lastly, Andre Kane III, who is from a wealthy African American family who wants him to have a successful paying career when his true passion is to dance. Each character is trying to tell their parents who they truly are inside and what they want to be, but all their parents are too wrapped up in their own careers and lives. I really recommend this book if you yourself are trying to explain to your parents who you really are, or if you're just tired of playing the role of "perfect". ~Amber M. (per. 12)

  2. In my opinion being perfect is impossible and doesn't exist. Everyone can improve and get better but no one can be perfect. Being perfect would mean satisfying everyone's definition of the word perfect. No one in the world is capable of being perfect but a Geod. It would be cool to see teenagers perspective of perfection and that is why I want to read this book.

  3. This book seems to have intriguing themes. Like "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", I think the vision of "perfection" depends on the person. Also, based on the summary, it looks like this book explores the stresses placed on modern teenagers to attain this image of "perfection" they don't always want in the first place.

  4. This book peaks my interest when it states that there are 4 teenagers trying to define the word "perfect." Being perfect in my opinion isn't one specific thing or characteristics. I want to read this book to see what these 4 teenagers think what the meaning of perfect is to them. ~Vincent C. Period 2

  6. Wow, yet another book I want to read. 'Perfect' is a little word with such a big impact on a teenager's life. Teens face pressure to fit in, get good grades, plan out their future, be thin like models, look pretty, and so much more. All the media about celebrities and models portray girls being thin with an amazing body, beautiful hair, and boys as muscular with an 8-pack and very good looking. The media jumbles up our definition of perfect, and what being perfect feels and looks like. This topic and the plot about four teenagers seem interesting, something I'll check out soon.

  7. This book seems to be very interesting. I've always wondered what someone else's idea of perfect was, while I was trying to reach my idea of perfect. I would love to read about four perspectives of the definition of perfect from different teenagers.

  8. I think this book would be perfect for girls/people who give in to peer pressure or try too hard to be accepted because it will teach them that there really is no "perfect" and that in order for them to be accepted, they have to accept themselves first.

  9. By reading this summary I can already tell this is a book I would definitely be interested in reading. Also I agree with Neven's comment above, because everyone has different perspectives on what "perfect" really is. There isn't really a true definition. I feel it would be interesting to see how these teenagers try to define it in this book. --Amanda Evans Period 4

  11. This book seems to be very interesting because it is about four teenagers who are trying to figure out the true meaning of perfect. However, most people agree that it is almost impossible to be perfect since everyone has completely different ideas of what perfection really is. I want to read this book to see how these four teenagers define perfect.

  13. This book sounds interesting because teenagers can easily relate to what the author is talking about. The media is a constant reminder of what society thinks is beautiful and that makes teenagers feel pressure to look and act that way

  14. This book reminds me of some other books that have alternating perspectives for each chapter. The whole concept of the book is really interesting too. I can see many people relating to the characters about being perfect in their own way. I'm interested to know how each person goes through the story now. -Phillip Park Period 7/8
