The Patron Saint of Butterflies by Cecilia Galante
Currently, I am reading The Patron Saint of Butterflies by Cecilia Galante. In this book, Agnes and Honey have always been best friends as they lived together in the Mount Blessing religious commune. Gradually, however, their clashing views on the commune start to pull them apart. Agnes feels that life in Mount Blessing is perfect, and she is completely devoted to living up to the rules and expectations of the community. On the hand, Honey hates the commune and feels that the leader, Emmanuel, just wants to manipulate them by imposing strict and oppressive rules. While Agnes dreams of becoming a saint when she dies, Honey dreams of leaving the commune forever. However, when a terrible accident occurs, they are forced to run away to the "outside" world. During their journey, Agnes and Honey's friendship is tested, as they begin to realize that everything they had known is all a sham. On a scale from 1 to 5, I would rate this book a 4, because I feel that the ending could have been better. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read realistic fiction novels about friendship or social issues. ~ Ridhima S. (per. 3)
